Nothington

Nothington is a punk band from San Francisco, United States, active from 2007. The group forms after the demise of Tsunami Bomb and begins as a new project for former Tsunami Bomb members Gabriel Lindeman and Jay Northington, who start working on demo tracks in fall 2006. They record a set of demos on a limited budget and share them online through a social networking page they create for the project.

The band’s line-up expands soon after when Chris Mutalich joins. Before Nothington, he plays in Enemy You and Try Failing, both of which are no longer active. His guitar work is matched by his snotty punk vocals, which balance Jay Northington’s deeper singing style. Mike Hicks, a local musician, then joins on bass and completes the line-up. The band is also associated with the Southern-influenced songwriting of Jay Northington, alongside touches drawn from Tom Waits, Leatherface and Mike Ness.

Chris Mutalich is noted as having previously played in Enemy You, and Nothington’s early development is closely tied to the San Francisco punk scene and to members with histories in other local bands. The group is described as playing punk, with melodic punk and orgcore also associated with its sound.
