The current line-up includes Marcus Bridge on vocals, Jon Deiley on guitar, Josh Smith on guitar, Nic Pettersen on drums, Alex Milovic, Adrian Fitipaldes, and Brendon Padjasek. The band’s past members include Adrian Fitipaldes on vocals from 2009 to 2014, Brendan Derby on drums in 2009, Mitchell Collier on drums in 2010, Simon Anderson on bass from 2010 to 2011, Alex Milovic on bass from 2009 to 2010 and again from 2011 to 2018, and Brendon Padjasek on bass and backing vocals from 2018 to 2021.
Career
Northlane begins playing live in mid-2009 and quickly builds a national reputation in Australia for its heavy, tightly performed shows and DIY approach. In early 2010, the band releases its debut six-track EP, Hollow Existence, which it co-produces in a friend’s garage studio.
The band’s first full-length album, Discoveries, is released after a regional headline tour and is signed to We Are Unified. It receives strong critical attention and helps the band expand its audience significantly. Northlane then continues with a heavy touring schedule in Australia and overseas, including North American shows in 2012, a Canadian tour, European dates on the Never Say Die! tour, and later tours with bands including Stray From The Path, Obey The Brave, Structures, Texas In July, Veil of Maya, Bring Me The Horizon, Of Mice and Men, Issues and Architects.
Albums and releases
Northlane’s studio albums are Discoveries in 2011, Singularity in 2013, Node in 2015, Mesmer in 2017, Alien in 2019 and Obsidian in 2022. The band also releases the EP Hollow Existence in 2010. Singularity is noted for receiving a strong response and for reaching number one in a mid-year report on Australian radio show Short.Fast.Loud.
Changes and collaborations
Founding vocalist Adrian Fitipaldes leaves the band in 2014 because of health concerns, and Marcus Bridge joins as the new vocalist later that year. Around the same period, Northlane records material with Will Putney in Sydney, including the single “Rot”, before announcing Node. The band also curates its own festival, FREE YOUR MIND, which features Thy Art Is Murder, Veil Of Maya, Volumes and Make Them Suffer among its line-up.
Activity and touring
Northlane performs on the Big Day Out touring festival in 2014 and continues to tour extensively in Australia, Europe and North America. The band develops a reputation for frequent live work, sold-out shows and a strong work ethic, and it also supports charitable causes, including The Smith Family.
