Northeast Party House

Northeast Party House are a six-piece alternative dance rock band from Melbourne, Australia. The group begins playing warehouse parties and local venues in early 2010 and builds a following through high-energy live shows. A demo version of the track “Dusk” attracts blog attention and local airplay, then wins triple j’s Unearthed competition and leads to an invitation to play Pyramid Rock Festival 2010.

Early recognition and live reputation

In 2011, the band performs alongside Does It Offend You, Yeah? from the UK, The Go! Team from the UK, Kimbra and Ball Park Music. They finish that year with a notable set at Falls Festival. Their live profile is a central part of their early identity, alongside a sound that combines smooth lead vocals, intricate guitar hooks, atmospheric analog synth and driving bass lines.

Releases and recording

The group releases its debut EP through Stop Start/EMI in November 2011. It includes four tracks, among them the single “Empires”, which is added to rotation on triple j. The EP is recorded over three months with engineer and producer Malcolm Besley in beach houses, bedrooms and makeshift studios.
