North Atlantic Oscillation

North Atlantic Oscillation is an experimental electronic rock group from Edinburgh, Scotland. The group forms in 2005 and is active from that point onwards. Its members are Sam Healy and Spacehaul, and its sound sits at the intersection of electronic rock and crossover prog.

Early releases and label history

The group releases its first single, “Some Blue Hive”, on One Records in June 2007. In 2009 it signs to Kscope, a label under Snapper Music, and issues the Callsigns EP. Kscope also releases the band’s debut album, Grappling Hooks, in March 2010, and the record receives critical acclaim in the UK.

Albums and touring

Fog Electric, the second album, appears in 2012 and is co-produced by Tony Doogan. During this period the band tours the UK and Europe with Porcupine Tree, Anathema and Blackfield. In August 2014 the group announces its third studio album, The Third Day, which is released through Kscope in October 2014. A fourth album, Grind Show, follows on Vineland Music in 2018.

Sam Healy and SAND

Vocalist and songwriter Sam Healy also records under the name SAND. He releases a solo album in 2013 and a second SAND album, A Sleeper, Just Awake, on Vineland Music in 2016.
