Norin & Rad
Norin & Rad is an American EDM duo made up of Bruce Karlsson and Nick Sember. Karlsson develops his production work from an early interest in computers and music software, while Sember’s background starts with rock, punk and hardcore before he moves into hip-hop, DJing and trance.
Formation and background
Karlsson begins working with computers at a young age and later gets his first music production program, Fruity Loops, around 2004. He then moves on to Reason, which leads him to focus on electronic dance music production. Sember first learns guitar with help from his father, then teaches himself bass, drums and keyboard. He later buys turntables, starts DJing and begins mixing hip-hop before a first trance record draws him more deeply into EDM.
The two meet in 2007 and connect quickly. After spending time together, they begin discussing collaboration and soon start the Norin & Rad project.
Music and releases
The duo begin producing tracks aimed at dancefloors, and their track “Of the Sun” receives play on Markus Schulz’s Global DJ Broadcast. They later work with Johnny from LMD in June 2009. Their profile grows through both studio output and DJ sets, and they open for artists including Andy Moor, Roger Shah, Aly & Fila, Eddie Halliwell, Marcus Schossow, Marco V and Blank & Jones. They also perform alongside trance vocalist Aruna.
Norin & Rad sign to Coldharbour, and their single “Always A New Day” appears on Markus Schulz’s Las Vegas ’10 compilation. Their sound is associated with trance and progressive trance, within the broader EDM and electronic music scene.
