Norah Jones is a singer, songwriter and musician from Bedford–Stuyvesant, United States, born in 1979. Her work spans blues, Christmas music, country, folk, indie pop and jazz, and she is associated with Muthajones Music.

Career

Jones is a member of Wax Poetic, The Little Willies, Puss N Boots, El Madmo and Laszlo. Before her solo breakthrough, she performs with Wax Poetic and later appears on two tracks from their release NuBlu Sessions.

Solo albums

Her debut album, Come Away with Me, is released in 2002, sells 26 million copies worldwide and wins five Grammy Awards in 2003. It is produced by Arif Mardin. Her second album, Feels Like Home, has a folk-oriented sound and becomes the highest-selling album in Blue Note Records' history, with more than a million copies sold in its first week.

Her third album, Not Too Late, is a set of 13 original songs. Her fourth studio album, The Fall, follows in 2009. Her fifth studio album, ...Little Broken Hearts, is released in 2012 and is co-written and produced with Danger Mouse. Jones records it at his Los Angeles studio during the autumn of 2011 and contributes vocals to his Rome project with Daniele Luppi before working with him on the album.

Recognition and style

Jones is listed by Time magazine among the most influential people of 2004. She is known for a jazz-influenced approach that also draws on country, folk, Americana, modern light jazz, pop and rock, rather than following a single genre closely. She is the daughter of sitar player Ravi Shankar.
