Nocturnal Depression

Nocturnal Depression is a black metal band from Grenoble, France, active since 2004. The group works within black metal and depressive black metal, and is associated with the depressive suicidal black metal style. It is influenced by Burzum, Forgotten Tomb, Xasthur and similar acts.

Line-up and structure

The band’s live line-up includes Lord Lokhraed on vocals, Modii on bass, Obeyron and Abalam on guitar, and Morkhod on drums. Herr Suizid handles all instruments and music, and prefers not to take part in live shows. The group is listed as comprising Herr Suizid, Lord Lokhraed and Alessandro Coletta.

Releases

Nocturnal Depression begins releasing demos in 2004 with Suicidal Thoughts and Near To The Stars. Other early recordings include Soundtrack For A Suicide and Fuck Off Parisian Black Metal Scene in 2005, followed by Nostalgia - Fragments Of A Broken Past in 2006. That same year the band also issues Nocturnal Depression / Funeral RIP and Four Seasons to a Depression, the latter later re-released on CD by Sun & Moon Records as a remastered version.

The band continues with Soundtrack for a Suicide: Opus II in 2007, Reflections of a Sad Soul in 2008, and several split and live releases in 2009 and 2010, including Beyond The Light, Dismal Empyrean Solitude, Mankind Suffering Visions, Nocturnal Depression / Kaiserreich and The Cult of Negation. Later releases include Suicidal Thoughts in 2011, L'isolement in 2013, Near to the Stars in 2014, Spleen Black Metal in 2015, Moloch / Nocturnal Depression in 2016, Deathcade in 2017, Children of the Night in 2018, Tides of Despair in 2019, and When My Time Has Come in 2022.

Collaborations and split releases

The discography includes splits with Funeral RIP, Wedard, Benighted in Sodom, Deathrow, Kaiserreich and Moloch, showing a strong connection to the underground black metal scene.
