Online breakthrough

He attracts wider attention after a cover of LMFAO’s Sexy And I Know It goes viral in May 2012. The video leads to appearances on Today and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, where it is used in a skit. That recording passes 10 million views.

Recording career

Guthrie releases his first album, Among The Wildest Things, in 2013. He funds the record through pledges on Indiegogo, setting a target of $15,000 and raising more than $39,000. His work is described as acoustic and rooted in American, Southern rock and alt-country styles.
