NitroVille

NitroVille is a female-fronted blues-driven hard rock band from London. It forms in early 2010 in Shoreditch, where vocalist Tola Lamont and guitarist Kurt Michael Boeck begin the project after sharing an idea of how raw rock and roll should sound. Their early writing focuses on live shows and an album called Can’t Stop What’s Comin’, with lyrical storytelling and solid rock musicianship at its centre.

Line-up

From Denmark, Fussi Andersen joins later in 2010 on bass, adding hard-driving bass lines and harmonies to Boeck’s Texan-style guitar playing. The last original member to join is drummer Cyro Zuzi, from São Paulo, Brazil, whose playing brings a Latin feel alongside hard rock drive. After the recording is completed, Zuzi leaves to pursue other career goals and the band brings in drummer Matt Whittington. The band line-up is listed as Tola Lamont on vocals, Kurt Michael Boeck on guitars, Fussi Andersen on bass guitar, and Matt Whittington on drums.

Recording and sound

After around six months of developing its sound, NitroVille records an eleven-track album with producer Mark Waterman at Fortress Studios in London. Waterman is associated with Ride and Smashing Pumpkins, while the studio has also hosted work linked with Biffy Clyro, Nickelback and Therapy. The band avoids heavy post-production and effects, and instead presents a rough-edged, direct hard rock sound.
