Ninotchka

Ninotchka is a group active from 2001 to 2007. It is based around Karen Holland on vocals and guitars, and Yan des Astres on keyboards, guitars and drums.

The group’s line-up also includes Anglo-Chinese singer and guitarist Karen Holland, French keyboardist Yannick Muet, guitarist Richard Carlisle and electronic drummer Maxime Seiter. Its music is described as pop with an eccentric, catchy feel, drawing on indie pop and twee sensibilities.

The group is associated with London and beyond, and its sound is shaped by influences from classic pop and more unusual electronic-pop styles. Those reference points include Blondie, Serge Gainsbourg, ABBA and the Carpenters, alongside Air, Sparks, Stereolab and Goldfrapp.
