Nina Flowers

Nina Flowers is the performance name of Jorge Luis Flores Sánchez, a Puerto Rican drag queen, DJ, activist, professional make-up artist and reality television personality. He performs in dance and house-related contexts, including vocal house, and has been active since 1993.

Career

Flowers wins an online vote to join the cast of Logo’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, which premieres in February 2009. He finishes second in the series. The attention from the programme leads to appearances at LGBT events in the United States and Canada, including Denver Pride, San Juan Pride, Chicago Pride and Vancouver Pride.

Recorded work

In December 2009, Flowers and DJ Ranny release the dance single “Loca”. The track appears on digital music services and is remixed by William Umana, Joe Gauthreaux and Manny Lehman. It reaches number 15 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in January 2010.

Flowers then issues Start Your Engines, an EP of six original tracks produced with William Umana. Its first single, “Locas in da House”, uses his trademark catchphrase in a tribal house arrangement. In January 2011, he releases “I’m Feelin Flowers”, made with Miami-based DJ and producer DJ MDW.
