Nikki Lane

Nikki Lane is an American country singer-songwriter from Greenville, South Carolina, born in 1983. She is associated with outlaw country and works across country, alt-country, Americana, rock and indie. She records on Frady Asphalt and is also linked with the Los Angeles label IAMSOUND.

Career

Lane grows up in the South and leaves Greenville as a teenager, moving to Los Angeles. She later spends time working day-to-day jobs and also tries fashion, having shoes manufactured in China and painted for sale under her own name. After moving to New York for a corporate job, she stops making music for a period, then returns to songwriting after a personal breakup.

Her writing draws on classic country, including Waylon Jennings, Loretta Lynn, John Prine and Merle Haggard. She says her songs are stories with a beginning, middle and end, and she writes about leaving, heartache, lust, longing, and related themes.

Recordings and releases

In February 2009, Lane goes to Nashville and records her self-released album No Room for Cowboys. She is later signed by IAMSOUND and works with producers David Cobb and Lewis Pesacov of Fool's Gold on material for the follow-up release.

Her four-song EP Gone, Gone, Gone comes first, followed by the full-length Walk of Shame, which includes songs such as the title track, “Gone, Gone, Gone” and “Save You.”

Other activity

Lane lives in Nashville and owns and operates the vintage boutique High Class Hillbilly, selling items she collects while touring.
