Nihiloxica

Nihiloxica is an electronic group from Kampala that brings together UK musicians Spooky-J and pq with members of the Nilotika Cultural Ensemble. The project is incubated in Kampala by Nyege Nyege Tapes.

Style and approach

The group builds its music around Bugandan drumming from Uganda, placing that tradition against a techno framework. Its sound combines tribal percussion and contemporary dance-floor electronics, with an emphasis on the meeting point between tradition and techno.

Context

The group works as a cross-continental collaboration between Ugandan and UK musicians, presenting its music as a dialogue between two cultures.
