NightShade

NightShade is a Swiss melodic death metal group from Montreux, with activity dating from 1998 to the present. The band is associated with death metal, deathcore, melodic death metal and electronic elements.

History

NightShade begins in 1998 after earlier activity under the name Northern Shadow, when the group changes its name to Nightshade in January 1996. The band is based in Kungsbacka, south of Gothenburg, Sweden, and vocalist Daniel Kvist remains the only original member after a series of line-up changes.

The first official demo, The Benighted, is recorded at ART Studio in June 1997. After further changes to the bass position, a keyboard player joins during work on the second demo. In October 1998, the band records the Devil demo at Studio Fredman. The following year, after winning a prize at the “Bohusröjjet” gig and contest, the band receives five days in Necromorbus Studio and records the third demo, Astoreth, in July.

Recordings and label work

In 2000, NightShade signs a three-album deal with Scarlet Records. The debut album, Wielding The Scythe, is recorded at Studio Underground during October and November of that year and is released in November 2001. In March 2002, guitarist Daniel Hjelm leaves after six years with the band and is replaced by Nicklas Magnusson. The band later splits up, and two of its members go on to play in the symphonic power metal group Dragonland.

Other uses of the name

The name Nightshade is also used by other unrelated groups, including a French-American deathcore, melodic and electronic metal band founded by guitarist Bastien Deleule, a group formed by former Q5 members Jonathan Scott K., Rick Pierce and Evan Sheeley, a Kansas City, Missouri band formed in 1992, a Chicago, Illinois band formed in 2007, and a dungeon synth project.
