Night Ranger

Night Ranger is an American hard rock band from San Francisco, formed in 1979 and active since then. Their sound sits within hard rock, rock and glam metal, and they become one of the best-known American rock acts of the 1980s.

Line-up and core members

Guitarist Brad Gillis and drummer Kelly Keagy are the only constant members across the band’s career. Bassist and vocalist Jack Blades appears on all but one of the band’s albums. Other members associated with the group include guitarist Jeff Watson, keyboardist Alan Fitzgerald, keyboardist Eric Levy, guitarist Keri Kelli, bassist Gary Moon, guitarist Michael Lardie and guitarist Joel Hoekstra.

1980s success

The band’s first five albums sell more than 10 million copies worldwide, with total album sales of around 17 million. Their best-known song is the power ballad “Sister Christian”, which reaches number five on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984. Other notable singles from the same period include “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me”, “When You Close Your Eyes”, “Sentimental Street”, “Four in the Morning (I Can’t Take Any More)” and “Goodbye”.

Breakup, reunion and later albums

After a decline in popularity in the late 1980s, the band disbands in 1989. In 1995, Gillis and Keagy record an album under the Night Ranger name with Gary Moon, without the other original members. The group reunites in 1996 with Blades, Watson and Fitzgerald, then releases two more albums later in the decade. Night Ranger continues to record and tour after that, issuing studio albums including Dawn Patrol, Midnight Madness, 7 Wishes, Big Life, Man in Motion, Feeding off the Mojo, Neverland, Seven, Hole in the Sun, Somewhere in California, High Road, Don't Let Up and ATBPO.
