Nick Jonas
Nick Jonas is an American singer, songwriter and actor from Dallas, United States. He is best known as one of the Jonas Brothers, the pop group he forms with his brothers Joe and Kevin. He is also a member of Nick Jonas & the Administration.
Early career
Jonas performs from the age of seven, when he joins the Broadway cast of Annie Get Your Gun. He makes his songwriting debut in 2002, when a Christmas song he co-writes with his father appears on a Broadway holiday album. He signs with Columbia Records two years later.
Jonas Brothers
Nick Jonas begins developing solo material with his brothers Kevin and Joseph, but the project becomes a full band and the siblings name themselves the Jonas Brothers. Their debut album, It’s About Time, is a commercial failure, and Columbia drops the group in 2007. They then sign with Hollywood Records and build an audience through Disney television appearances, their own series and a Disney Channel film with Demi Lovato.
Their self-titled second album sells close to two million copies, followed by A Little Bit Longer and Lines, Vines and Trying Times. Across these releases, Nick contributes heavily as songwriter and plays several instruments, including drums, keyboard and guitar.
Nick Jonas & the Administration
In late 2009, Jonas works with several other musicians on a side project. Former members of Prince’s New Power Generation, including Michael Bland and Tommy Barbarella, join the line-up, and the group takes the name Nick Jonas & the Administration. Their debut album, Who I Am, appears in early 2010 and reaches number three in the United States.
Solo work
Jonas focuses mainly on solo work after 2010. He releases a self-titled album in 2014 and later scores the Top 10 single “Jealous”, which also tops the Billboard dance chart. “Chains” and “Levels” also reach number one on that chart; “Levels” appears as a bonus track on Nick Jonas X2. He follows with Last Year Was Complicated in 2016, an album with production from Jason Evigan, Mattman & Robin, Sir Nolan and others. The record includes “Close”, a duet with Tove Lo, and “Bacon”, featuring Ty Dolla $ign, and debuts at number two on the Billboard 200.
Acting and collaborations
Alongside recording, Jonas continues acting in film and television. He appears in the films Careful What You Wish For and Goat. In 2017, he releases “Remember I Told You”, featuring Anne-Marie and Mike Posner, and “Find You”. He also works with Nicki Minaj on “Bom Bidi Bom” for the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack.
Labels and style
His listed labels include Safehouse Records and NJJ Publishing. His work is associated with pop, and his earlier band career places him in pop rock as well.
