Nick Hakim
Nick Hakim is a United States-based neo soul and psychedelic soul artist, born to Chilean and Peruvian parents and based in Brooklyn, with Washington, D.C. as his hometown. He emerges in 2014 as a deliberately understated balladeer with a warm, intimate style and an old-soul feel.
Early releases and rise
Before his wider breakthrough, Hakim appears on Gizmo’s Red Balloon album alongside Gwen Bunn and Casey Benjamin. In 2014 he releases two EPs, Where Will We Go, Pt. 1 and Where Will We Go, Pt. 2, both of which are predominantly acoustic and help establish his low-key approach. These recordings place him in a space between Jeff Buckley and Anthony Hamilton, while still sounding singular and restrained.
Albums and performances
Hakim builds his audience through live performances, including support slots for Maxwell and King. His debut album, Green Twins, is made over three years and released on ATO in 2017. He later releases Will This Make Me Good, preceded by the single “Qadir”.
