New Constellations
New Constellations is a Portland-based duo made up of Harlee Case and Josh Smith. The pair first start collaborating at the age of 14, when they record a song together in Josh Smith’s childhood bedroom, then spend the following years developing their own separate approaches to music before forming the project that becomes New Constellations.
Style and sound
The group works in an indie pop and synthpop space with elements associated with trip-hop and synthwave. Their music is described through bright melodies, prominent guitar hooks and layered vocals.
Early releases and recognition
New Constellations debut with the single “Hot Blooded”, a song centred on love, warmth and compassion. In their first year, they sell out Portland’s Mission Theater, appear at A2IM’s Indie Week in New York City, and receive a featured placement on @Gorillaz’s “G-Mix 17 by Noodle” playlist, now titled “Noodle Music Friday”.
