Nerija

Nerija is a Lithuanian ensemble that first appears performing in 1970 and remains active. The group is associated with pop and rock material, and its music is regularly broadcast by Lithuanian radio and television stations.

History and activity

The ensemble performs continuously and develops new concert programmes. It gives concerts in many former Soviet cities and also performs in Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Germany, Mozambique and other countries.

Over the course of its history, Nerija issues 11 albums before perestroika and 4 afterwards. The group continues the musical traditions of its predecessors and draws on Lithuanian folk music, combining it with dance rhythms and a restrained stage presentation.

Members and related artists

The current line-up includes Roma Mačiulytė and Antanas Čapas. Other members named in connection with the ensemble include Stasys Povilaitis, Liutauras Čeprackas, Simonas Donskovas, Birutė Petrikytė, Vygantas Keliauskas and Vitalijus Pauliukas, all of whom begin or continue their creative work in the group.

Other listed performers in the present formation are Aleksas Kastanavičius, Algirdas Lukšys, Algirdas Zigmantas and Egidijus Jovaiša.
