Neon Trees

Neon Trees are an American alternative rock and new wave band from Provo, Utah, with origins in Southern California, including Murrieta. The group forms in 2005 and is active from that point to the present. The core lineup consists of Tyler Glenn on lead vocals and keyboards, Chris Allen on guitars, Branden Campbell on bass, and Elaine Bradley on drums and vocals.

Early formation and breakthrough

The band begins as a project between neighbours Tyler Glenn and Chris Allen before expanding to a full four-piece in Provo. It builds a following locally, then gains wider attention in late 2008 when it supports several dates on The Killers’ North American tour. In early 2009, the group signs to Mercury Records.

Releases and chart success

Neon Trees have earlier independent releases before issuing their debut album, Habits, through Mercury/Def Jam. The album includes “Animal” as its lead single. “Animal” reaches number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in 2010 and is performed by the band on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in March of that year. The follow-up album, Picture Show, includes “Everybody Talks” as its first single.

Recognition

In 2009, City Weekly in Salt Lake City names Neon Trees Band of the Year.
