Neon Saturdays

Neon Saturdays is a rock band from Latvia, active since 2012. It is based in Sigulda and starts with four members who already have experience making music through music school training and work in other projects.

Style and influences

The band describes its music as positive rock, shaped by indie, pop rock and alternative rock. Its sound also draws on artists including Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Green Day, U2, The Killers, Placebo and 30 Seconds to Mars. Alongside standard rock instruments, the group also experiments with studio and synth effects, while placing emphasis on song structure and melody.

Releases and activity

In its first months, the band begins work on a debut album and records three singles: “Sometimes”, “Tomorrow” and “Awake”. “Tomorrow” is released with a video and receives airplay on Lithuanian music channels, while “Awake” reaches number 2 in the Latvian alternative music chart. The group also works on a further single and remains active.

Performances and name

Neon Saturdays performs in 2012 at events including Studentu Paradīze at Arena Riga, the Latvian new music and art festival Bildes, and on a tour in Lithuania. The name refers to the feeling of city life, including sounds, lights, activity, time spent with special people, and the nostalgia that comes with weekend mornings after intense evenings.

Lyrics

The band’s lyrics focus on human emotions, feelings and philosophical ideas, and on looking at people and society from another point of view. They also touch on ideas of living better, not being afraid, and questioning stereotypes.
