Nazaket Teymurova

Nazaket Teymurova is an Azerbaijani mugham singer and a prominent female performer in the genre. She performs as a prima donna of the Azerbaijani State Opera, where she appears in mugham operas. Her repertoire and public profile place her within Azerbaijani folk and world music traditions, with a particular association with mugham.

Performance career

Teymurova gives solo public concerts in Azerbaijan and abroad, including performances in Europe and Asia. In 2008, she performs the mugham-opera Leyli and Majnun at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. She is also linked with the permanent mugham group Khary bulbul.

Recordings and recognition

With Khary bulbul, Teymurova releases seven CD albums on different national companies. In 2012, the Italian label Felmay releases one of her CDs. Since 2005, she holds the title of People’s Artist, the highest state title awarded to musicians in Azerbaijan. In 2011, she receives a UNESCO Prize for “the most beautiful voice” at the 8th International Festival Sharq taronalari in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
