Natalie La Rose

Natalie La Rose is a singer and dancer from Amsterdam, Netherlands, born in 1988. She is associated with contemporary R&B, pop, dance, electronic and rap, and her music draws on pop and rhythm with a strong dance emphasis.

Early life and move to the United States

Born to Surinamese parents and raised in Amsterdam, she moves to Los Angeles at 20 to pursue a career as a singer and dancer. She is influenced by artists including Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey, and develops her voice through years of practice.

Career beginnings and work with Flo Rida

In 2011, at an ESPY Awards after-party, she approaches Flo Rida and tells him they will work together. He invites her to the studio the next day, and she performs with him across the world over the following two years at sold-out shows. In 2013, she signs to his International Music Group (I.M.G.) label.

Amsterdam and early recording work

Before her solo breakthrough, she is part of the duo Amsterdam, which signs to Blackground Records/Interscope Records in 2010. The project does not release any music and does not last.

Solo recording

Her debut single for I.M.G./Republic Records is “Somebody”, featuring Jeremih. The track uses production from Future Classic and updates the melody of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”. Jeremih records his vocal part in Miami after being brought to the studio by Flo Rida, and Natalie describes the song as fun, funky and feel-good, with a summertime atmosphere.
