Nap Eyes

Nap Eyes is an indie rock band from Halifax, Canada. The group forms in 2011 from vocalist Nigel Chapman’s existing solo project, The Mighty Northumberland, when bassist Josh Salter and drummer Seamus Dalton join him. The line-up also includes guitarist Brad Loughead. The band works in indie rock, with material that also sits alongside indie pop and folk pop.

Albums and development

Nap Eyes release their debut album, Whine of the Mystic, independently in 2014. It is rereleased in 2015 by You’ve Changed Records in Canada and Paradise of Bachelors in the United States. The second album, Thought Rock Fish Scale, appears in 2016 on the same labels and presents the group in a slow, psychedelic and meditative style. That record is supported by touring in Canada and the United States, an appearance on CBC Radio’s Q, and a later run of selected European dates. In June 2016, it is named to the longlist for the Polaris Music Prize.

The third album, I’m Bad Now, follows in 2018 and shows a move towards a more up-tempo sound. Snapshot of a Beginner, the fourth album, comes out in 2020, with the single “Mark Zuckerberg” appearing beforehand. The band’s fifth album, The Neon Gate, is released in 2024.
