Naked Aggression
Naked Aggression is an American hardcore punk group from Madison, United States, active from 1990 to the present. Formed in late 1990 as a protest against the first Gulf War and the political right, the band presents itself through libertarian socialist, feminist and anarchist ideas.
Formation and early years
The group is formed by Kirsten Patches on vocals and Phil Suchomel on lead guitar. Soon after forming, the band moves from Madison to Oakland, California, and later to Los Angeles. Its early years include extensive touring in the United States, Mexico, Canada and Europe.
Releases and activity
Between 1991 and 1998, Naked Aggression releases three full-length records, three seven-inch singles, one live record, and several songs that appear only on compilations. Their catalogue includes the album The Gut-Wringing Machine. In 2003, Kirsten Patches reforms the band so it can continue its political message.
Political work and appearances
The band holds benefit shows for a range of causes, including Food Not Bombs, AIDS research, pro-choice groups, women’s clinics, rape crisis centres, political prisoners and school art departments. It is also featured in Penelope Spheeris’ 1998 documentary The Decline of Western Civilization III. Phil Suchomel records his first soundtrack work for that film.
Later releases
After reforming, Naked Aggression tours the United States and releases a split LP with Die Schwarzen Schaffe on Compary Records.
