Nadia Nair is a Swedish indie pop artist from Gothenburg on the country’s west coast. Her music blends rock, soul, western pop, classical music and a wide range of ethnic and folk influences, and her vocal style is described as personal and distinctive.
Early life and background
Nair grows up on the Swedish west coast and begins looking for a place in music from the age of four. She starts out playing violin before moving towards singing, and she also turns her own poetry into songs. At 15, she decides to devote herself to the stage.
Move to Stockholm and later return west
She moves to Stockholm to focus on music, but her early collaborations do not lead to the breakthrough she expects. After feeling defeated, she returns to the countryside of her childhood on the west coast and spends a year there. That period, close to childhood memories and instruments, leads to new songs and renewed energy.
Debut work and collaboration
In the summer of 2012, Nair meets songwriter and producer Victor Rådström, who becomes her musical partner. Together they write and shape the music that she presents through her debut single, Bon Voyage.
Style
Nair’s music combines diverse influences rather than staying within one genre, and her writing is presented as bold and emotionally direct.
