Muyayo Rif

Muyayo Rif is a band from Cornellà, in Catalonia, that plays a mix of punk, ska, reggae, Latin and rock, with later material also drawing on electroswing, Balkan and disco. The group has a career stretching back more than 10 years and, in 2007, it goes through a major change in which it professionalises its sound and develops a more distinctive live approach.

Albums and production

Gambeat, known for work with La Ventura, Radio Bemba and Mano Negra, contributes to the band’s development and produces two albums for them: Construmón and P’alante!, both on Kasba Music and both released in 2010 and 2011 respectively. The band then releases Maldita Comedia in 2013, also on Kasba Music, before issuing All In in 2017. Across these records, the group keeps its energy and groove while expanding its sound.

Live work and recognition

Muyayo Rif’s performances focus on energy, celebration and social engagement, presented through a festive and optimistic style. This live profile leads to a win at Festimad Taste in 2009. The band also establishes itself on the Spanish festival circuit through appearances at Aupa Lumbreiras and Viña Rock, and it performs internationally in countries including France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Russia and Switzerland. Festival appearances include WOMAD in Pyatigorsk, Russia, WOMAD in the UK, Festyland in the Netherlands and WOMAD in Fuerteventura.
