Mutiny

Mutiny is a funk group from the United States. It forms around Jerome Brailey, who is also credited as Jerome Brailey and Mutiny, with Marvin Daniels and Darryl Dixon listed as members. The group begins after Brailey leaves Parliament/Funkadelic at the end of the 1970s, following a financial dispute, as George Clinton’s mothership splinters.

Formation and style

Brailey and Glen Goins work on the concept for Mutiny before Goins dies in 1978. Brailey then continues with the project and forms the group. Its music is similar to classic P-funk and places emphasis on dual lead guitar work.

Releases and activity

The first album, Mutiny On The Mamaship, is released in 1979 on Columbia. The original edition includes a lyric sheet and artwork, including a critical depiction of George Clinton. The group goes on to release four albums and one compilation album between 1979 and 2000.

Recognition

Jerome Brailey is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
