Mushy
Mushy is the solo electronic project of Valentina Fanigliulo, an Italian producer from Rome, born in 1984. The project works within experimental electronic music and is associated with darkwave, minimal synth, industrial, post-industrial and grave wave. Its sound combines loops, analogue drones, noise, chants and cinematic textures, with a focus on bleak and nocturnal atmospheres.
Career
Recording begins in 2003 with Analitica dell'immaginazione, issued on Cold Current Prod. That release establishes the project’s approach through layered electronic construction and dark, introspective material. In 2009, Fanigliulo signs to FinalMusik, a move that leads to the album Superfetazione and an appearance on Program Vol. 1, both released in 2009. Superfetazione continues the direction of the first album while adding more organic elements, cinematic effects, improvisation, vocals and shifting sound structures.
Later releases
Mushy releases Faded Heart in 2011 and Breathless in 2012. Across these recordings, the project remains centred on experimental electronic composition and industrial-influenced sound design.
Style and context
The project is described as part of the renewal of the industrial music scene. Its music draws on early kosmische synth approaches, ambient soundscapes, synthpop futurism and post-nuclear industrial noise, combining them into dense, atmospheric pieces.
