Mr. Oizo is the stage name of Quentin Dupieux, a French filmmaker, electronic musician and DJ from Paris. Born in 1974, he works in electro, electronic and related club-focused styles and releases music on labels including F Communications, Ed Banger Records and Brainfeeder.

Career

Dupieux first gains wide attention with “Flat Beat”, an electro track that becomes a major European hit in 1999 after being used in a series of Levi’s television advertisements. He directs the advertisement himself, which features the yellow puppet Flat Eric nodding along in a pickup truck; Flat Eric later appears in the song’s music video.

His early releases include the EPs #1 and M-Seq, both issued on F Communications in 1997. He then releases his first album, Analog Worms Attack, in 1999, followed by Moustache (Half a Scissor) in 2005.

Across the late 2000s and early 2010s, he continues with a series of EPs and albums including Transexual EP on Ed Banger Records, Lambs Anger in 2008, Positif EP, Pourriture EP and Stade 2. He also releases Stade 3 as a free internet EP.

In 2016 he returns with All Wet on Ed Banger Records, an album that includes collaborations with Tetanos, Peaches, Boys Noize, Phra, Skrillex, Siriusmo, Mocky and Charli XCX.

Other work and collaborations

Dupieux also produces remixes for Kavinsky, Jamelia, Cassius, Scissor Sisters and Calvin Harris. He makes the soundtrack for his first feature film, Steak, with Gaspard Augé of Justice.

He starts the project Handbraekes with Boys Noize in 2012. He is also associated with The Avenue.
