The line-up includes Alex Smith on vocals, Garry Frost on guitar, Andrew Thompson on saxophone, Charlie Cole on keyboards, Ian Lees on bass and Paul Freeland on drums. Other members associated with the group include Mark Meyer, Kevin Bennett and Ian Lees.
Career
The band forms in Sydney in the late 1970s and records a run of hit singles and albums in Australia. Their best-known song is “What About Me”, which reaches number one in Australia for two months in 1982. It later becomes an international hit in the United States, peaking at number 29 on the Billboard singles chart and spending 26 weeks in the Hot 100, which places it at number 88 in Billboard’s year-end Hot 100 list for 1983. The group also contributes “Never” to the soundtrack of the film Footloose.
Later years
After their initial success, Moving Pictures return to Australia, where they have a few smaller hits before their profile declines. Alongside the Australian pop rock group, there are several other acts using the name Moving Pictures, including indie pop, post-rock, folk rock and Rush tribute bands.
