Move D

Move D is the recording name of David Moufang, a German electronic musician from Heidelberg, born in 1966. He works across deep house, electronic music, ambient, minimal techno and techno, and is associated with a wide set of German and European electronic styles.

Early development

Moufang grows up listening to Kraftwerk and Pink Floyd, but he identifies a trip to see 2001: A Space Odyssey as a deeper influence on his musical imagination. He becomes especially interested in space and the cosmos, and that interest shapes the ethereal, otherworldly character of his music. He studies classical percussion and also develops skill as a jazz guitarist.

Work in techno and aliases

He is introduced to techno in 1989 by a friend and quickly absorbs music by 808 State, Nexus 21 and key Detroit acts. His first record appears with Jonas Grossmann under the name Deep Space Network. In 1993, he releases his first solo material on the Source Records compilation Homeworks, where he already shows a relaxed, loose approach to techno.

Labels and releases

Move D releases music on Warp, Reflective, Freundinnen, Compost’s Black Label and Source Records, including releases on his own Source label. His album Kunststoff is reissued by CCO in 2006. He is also set to release an album on City Centre Offices.
