Mount Eerie

Mount Eerie is a US indie folk and indie rock project from Anacortes, Washington, led by Phil Elverum and active from 2003 to the present. It follows Elverum’s earlier work as The Microphones and continues the same lo-fi, fuzz-folk approach, with dense lyrics and a subtle, restrained sound.

Background

Elverum starts Mount Eerie in 2003 as a new phase after The Microphones reaches a stopping point. He describes it as a fresh project rather than a continuation, using it to move into new ideas while keeping some of the textures associated with his earlier recordings.

Sound and collaborators

The project uses synthesizers, guitars and drums, and also features the voices of Mirah, The Blow and other friends from the K Records and Anacortes, Washington scene. Its style is tagged as lo-fi, folk, experimental and indie, and its songs often combine sparse arrangements with detailed, image-rich writing.

Releases and label work

Seven New Songs of Mount Eerie is the first Mount Eerie album and the first release on Elverum’s P.W. Elverum & Sun label. The songs from that recording are available as free downloads through the Internet Archive.
