Motiv

Motiv is the performance name of Motiu Sorin, a DJ and producer from Oradea, Romania. He works in Romanian minimal techno, with a sound described through bass-heavy production, film cuts and Romanian folklore elements, and he is also associated with drum and bass, liquid drum and bass, post-hardcore, minimal and deep tech tags.

Career

He begins DJing at 19 while studying at university, initially as a personal interest. After a period of residency and a number of club dates, he shares the booth with local and international DJs including Vera, Andrey Pushkarev, Markus Homm, Ada Kaleh, Ali Nasser, Dubphone, Negru, Adrian Eftimie and Raoul Russu.

Labels and projects

Motiv is connected with Dinsubsol booking agency and Got Trapped Music, both of which he owns. He is also listed as an artist on Vandalism Musique, Got Trapped, Wavetech Music and Attrakt Records, and he plans a vinyl-only label called Dinsubsol.

Style

His production focuses on fierce basslines and an after-hours approach to Romanian techno and minimal, with an emphasis on the western Romanian scene.
