Moses Yoofee Trio

Moses Yoofee Trio is a Berlin-based jazz group built around pianist and composer Moses Yoofee. Yoofee grows up between Potsdam and Berlin and has been active in the German jazz scene from a young age; in 2013, at 14, he is described by Germany’s Tagesspiegel as a “young jazz genius”.

Formation and members

The trio forms after Yoofee meets drummer Roman Klobe at Berlin’s Jazz Institute. Klobe suggests playing with his friend Noah Fürbringer, a Munich native studying in Mannheim. The project develops as an equal partnership, despite the name. According to the group’s account of their first session, the chemistry is immediate, and Fürbringer later plans to move to Berlin.

Activity and profile

In 2021, Fürbringer, who is already known for sharing videos of his drumming, begins posting rehearsal footage from the trio. A later video uploaded by Klobe helps expand their audience, and the group starts reaching listeners beyond Germany. Their live appearances include Elbjazz Festival in Hamburg, London’s Jazz Festival, and a performance at Tempelhof Airport in Berlin, on the rooftop of an air traffic control tower.

Style

The group is associated with jazz, jazz fusion and instrumental music, with a sound rooted in Berlin’s contemporary jazz scene.
