Morris Cowan
Morris Cowan is the electronic music project of Adam Taylor, who also releases under the name Taylor. His work draws on house, techno, dub, minimal classical and post-rock, and is associated with techno, tech house and neotrance.
Background and style
Taylor begins on guitar and plays through classical grades from a young age. In his teens he becomes more focused on songwriting and forms a post-rock group, writing long instrumental pieces built from shifting melodies. He later moves into digital production, and that earlier approach to composition remains part of his music.
As Morris Cowan, he develops a sound described by detailed arrangements, subtle production and layered electronic textures. His music is noted for balancing headphone listening with dancefloor use.
Releases and labels
He is a core member of the Nottingham-based Wigflex imprint and has built a reputation through his productions there. Under the Taylor name, he has released material that leads to further releases in 2010. He also issues the track or release CMB on Super Recordings, which is marked by a strong atmosphere and a distinctive, otherworldly quality. An album titled Circa is also part of his catalogue and represents a significant development in his work.
Profile
Taylor continues to focus on the fine detail of his music, producing electronic tracks that combine melodic structure with careful sound design. His work is presented as forward-looking and suited to listeners across different electronic music scenes.
