Morning Bride

Morning Bride is an Anglo-American five-piece group that forms in 2004 and is active from 2004 to the present. The band settles in Hackney, London, after members from the north-eastern United States and English seaside towns come together there. The settled line-up is in place by late 2006.

Line-up and sound

The group includes Amity and Alexa from the north-eastern U.S., alongside the male members, with Mark described as having initially put the project together as a labour of love. Morning Bride’s vocals and arrangements combine Amity’s singing with Mark James Pearson’s songwriting voice and a dense instrumental palette that includes cello, bass, slide and lead guitars, organ, melodica and drums.

Recording and release

The band’s debut album, Lea Valley Delta Blues, is recorded, mixed and mastered in a week with Ed Deegan, whose work includes credits with the White Stripes, Holly Golightly and Billy Childish. It is released on Letterbox Records and receives praise from the national music press.

Reception and live activity

Press descriptions of the band’s music include terms such as “spellbinding” and music that “beguiles and enraptures”. Amity’s vocals are also singled out with descriptions including “hypnotic”, “heart-stopping”, “gloriously beautiful” and “the girl voice in all your best dreams”, while Mark James Pearson’s singing is described as a “cool, dark, velvety croon” and a “cash-esque drawl”. In 2007, the group tours five European countries and builds a following in London and the south-east of England.
