Morgan Evans

Morgan Evans is an Australian singer-songwriter and country-rock artist from Newcastle, Australia. Born in 1985, he starts performing in his teens and forms his first band at the age of thirteen. His music combines contemporary country with melodic rock, and his live shows are known for their energy and direct connection with audiences.

Early career and breakthrough

Evans grows up in working-class Newcastle in New South Wales, and that background informs the drive and work ethic associated with his performances. After building a following through live dates across Australia and the United States, he signs with Warner Music Australia following a strong festival performance. Before his debut album, he releases two successful EPs that produce three number-one singles and help establish him as a significant new Australian country act.

Debut album and recording work

His self-titled debut album appears in 2014. He records it in Nashville with a group of established session musicians and Australian producer Jedd Hughes. Evans writes eleven of the twelve tracks himself, working both alone and with local and Nashville songwriters. The album reaches number one on the iTunes and ARIA Country Album Charts and enters the ARIA Mainstream Album Chart at number 20.

The album also produces three number-one singles: One Eye for an Eye, Best I Never Had and Like a Tornado. It brings him his first APRA nominations and international attention, including invitations to return to the CMA Music Festival in Nashville and to perform at the Grand Ole Opry.

Awards, television and international recognition

In 2013, Evans is named New Oz Artist of the Year at the CMC Music Awards. Over the next two years he receives four further trophies, including back-to-back Male Oz Artist of the Year awards. He is later awarded the CMA Global Artist Award in 2015, an honour given for helping promote country music in an artist’s home country.

Evans also works in television as the face of Foxtel’s Country Music Channel. In that role he presents coverage of the CMC Rocks festival, artist interviews and the CMC Music Awards, and in 2016 he co-hosts the live national broadcast with Kelsea Ballerini. His media work leads to nominations for an ASTRA Award and a TV Week Logie Award.

Tours and collaborations

His career includes touring with Taylor Swift and Alan Jackson, and performances across Australia and the USA. He also plays to more than 50,000 people in Nashville at the CMA Music Festival. Later, after relocating to Nashville, he continues writing with a range of songwriters and maintains a career spanning recording, live performance and television presenting.
