Moonflowers

Moonflowers are a Bristol-based UK indie electronic group active from 1987 to 1997. The line-up includes Sean O'Neil, Toby Pascoe and Jesse D. Vernon.

Formed in Bristol in 1987, they combine punk, funk, reggae, rock, jazz, disco and psychedelia. They also start their own label, Pop God, and take part in an influential early-1990s club night called The Dig in, held on The Thekla, a boat in Bristol docks.

Releases and songs

The group is associated with tracks including “Get Higher”, “Tighten Up”, “Housework”, “Groovepower” and “Warshag”. “Tighten Up” is a cover of Archie Bell and the Drells, and “Warshag” is a protest against the first Gulf War. Their recordings regularly appear in the indie charts.

Live work and later activity

Moonflowers play at festivals including Glastonbury. One noted appearance is their headline set at the Ashton Court Festival, where they perform wearing body paint. They continue making records until 1997, when the members go their separate ways.

Jesse D. Vernon

After Moonflowers, Jesse D. Vernon plays with his own band Morningstar, performs with Kate Stables in This Is the Kit, and conducts The Fantasy Orchestra.
