Moonchild Sanelly is the stage name of Sanelisiwe Twisha, a South African musician and dancer from Port Elizabeth. She first gains wider attention in the Durban poetry and music scene before moving to Johannesburg, where she continues her music career. She is recognised for her signature blue hair and for describing her own style as “Future ghetto punk”.

Music style and background

Her music combines experimental electronic sounds, afro-punk and edgy pop, with influences from kwaito, hip hop and jazz. This mix places her work across several South African and international popular music styles.

Career and performances

Moonchild Sanelly performs at festivals outside South Africa, including SXSW in Austin, Texas and Primavera Sound in Barcelona. She also tours Europe with South African hip hop group Die Antwoord.
