Moon Hooch
Moon Hooch is a Brooklyn-based instrumental group that forms in 2010 and remains active. It is made up of Cyzon Griffin, Wenzl McGowen, Michael Wilbur and James Muschler, and its music sits across experimental, jazz, jazz fusion and nu jazz, with strong links to dance-oriented and improvised styles.
Style and background
The group begins as a collaborative trio in Brooklyn, with Michael Wilbur on tenor saxophone, Wenzl McGowen on tenor saxophone and James Muschler on drums. Its sound combines elements of house, dance, drum and bass, jazz, world music and classical music, and the band develops a reputation for performance in public spaces as well as traditional venues.
Early activity
Moon Hooch forms in the summer of 2010 and starts playing in places such as Central Park and Brooklyn subway stations, which helps it gain attention in New York City. The band also appears on tour with Mike Doughty in 2011.
