Monsters Build Mean Robots
Monsters Build Mean Robots are a Brighton group who begin as a side project involving members of Last days of Lorca and Court of Hidden Faces before developing into a post-rock band. They release their debut album on Nice Weather For Airstrikes Records in 2007 and then tour extensively across the UK and Ireland.
The band play with And So I Watch You From Afar, Staefraenn Hakon, Codes in the Clouds, Enablers and God Is An Astronaut. Their music develops from a leftfield electronica approach into a more organic post-rock sound, while still keeping a strong emphasis on melody and vocals. They are associated with post-rock, shoegaze, instrumental and slowcore.
Descriptions of their work highlight large crescendos, chiming and spiralling guitars, orchestral layers, stuttering beats, and mixed male and female vocal harmonies. Their songs are noted for combining uplift and melancholy, and for bridging the space between shoegaze and a more accessible sound. One track, I Suggest That You Burn Down Your Homes, is singled out for its pointed refrain and song title.
The band also record the single Psalm 57..., which is described as having hymn-like choruses and a layered, orchestral arrangement. They are at work on a second album that is described as more organic than their debut.
