Mokoomba
Mokoomba is a Zimbabwean group from Chinotimba township in Victoria Falls. It is active from 2001 and performs afro-fusion, manou gallo, world, zig zag world and Zimbabwean music. The group sings in English, Luvale, Tonga, Nyanja, Ndebele and Shona.
The name Mokoomba comes from a Tonga word linked to deep respect for the Zambezi River and the life along its banks. The group forms between 2002 and 2007 and begins its professional career in 2008.
A performance at the Music Crossroads InterRegional Festival in Lilongwe, Malawi leads to a European tour. After that, the group records its first album, Kweseka. Its second album, Rising Tide, is produced by the Ivorian singer Manou Gallo. The third album, Luyando, is self-produced, released on Germany’s OutHere label and takes a more stripped-down, mostly acoustic approach.
