Moin
Moin is an experimental music group from Kiel, Germany. It is active from 1974 to the present, and is identified as a 1970s German folk band.
Line-up and background
The group consists of Joe Andrews and Tom Halstead, who are known for their work as Raime on the Blackest Ever Black label, together with percussionist Valentina Magaletti. Magaletti is also associated with Tomaga and Vanishing Twin. Moin is a group rather than a solo project.
Sound and style
Moin works across experimental music with influences from post-punk, noise rock, post-hardcore and electronic music. Its recordings are marked by complex rhythms, raw textures, unconventional song structures, atmosphere, and a strong rhythmic focus. Electronic elements are central to the group’s sound, and its music often combines abrasive guitar with layered percussion and dense electronics.
Albums
The group’s debut album, Moot!, appears in 2020 and presents its mix of guitar noise, percussion and electronic texture. Its follow-up, Paste, appears in 2022 and develops the same approach with more complex arrangements and a further emphasis on rhythm and texture.
