Modulate

Modulate is a Manchester-based industrial and electronic body music group active since 2002, centred on hard industrial DJ Geoff Lee. The project’s sound is described as hook-led electro dance music with a raw alternative edge, drawing on industrial, EBM, powernoise, harsh EBM and TBM influences.

Releases and chart success

The group’s debut EP, Skullfuck, enters the German DAC alternative charts and is described in the press as a club hit of the year within the scene. It appears in 2007 on Sistinas Records in North America and Infacted Recordings elsewhere. Modulate’s first full-length album, Detonation, follows in 2008 on Metropolis Records in North America, Gravitator Records in Russia and Infacted Recordings in the rest of the world. The album spends nearly two months in the Top 10 of both the German Alternative Chart and the Dutch Underground Chart, and is voted by DJs into the DAC Top 50 albums of 2008.

A later release, Robots, appears in 2012 on Metropolis Records for North and South America and Infacted Recordings for Europe and the rest of the world. It marks a shift toward a cleaner, more dance-oriented style and reaches number 3 in the German DAC alternative chart.

Live activity and collaborations

Modulate supports Alec Empire on the UK leg of the Past, Present, Future tour, VNV Nation on the Judgement tour, and Combichrist on the What the Fuck is Wrong with You? tour. The group also plays headline tours and festival dates internationally, with live appearances across Europe and North America.

As a remixer, Modulate works for a wide range of acts in the alternative electro scene, including Die Krupps, Suicide Commando, Grendel, Aesthetic Perfection, Faderhead, Reaper, Soman, Nachtmahr, Neikka RPM, Schallfaktor, XP8, SAM, Caustic, God Module and Surgyn. Modulate’s material also appears on several compilations, including releases on Infacted, Alfa Matrix, Zillo, Totentanz, Crunch Pod, Sistinas and Hellektroempire.
