Moderat

Moderat is a Berlin electronic group made up of Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary of Modeselektor, together with Sascha Ring, who records as Apparat. The project begins in 2002 in Berlin, when the three record an EP for BPitch Control titled Auf Kosten der Gesundheit. It then pauses while the three members continue their separate work in Modeselektor and Apparat.

Formation and early work

Before Moderat releases a full-length album, Modeselektor establishes its profile with the album Happy Birthday!, which features contributions from Puppetmastaz, Maximo Park and Thom Yorke. The duo also remixes artists including Thom Yorke and Björk, and tours with Radiohead across Japan in 2008. Ring develops his own solo path with Walls in 2007, following his collaboration with Ellen Allien on Orchestra of Bubbles, and works in a more band-oriented direction while touring for several years.

Albums and collaboration

Moderat reunites in 2008 and returns to the studio as a trio. Its first full album, Moderat, appears in 2009. The release includes ten videos by the Berlin visual collective Pfadfinderei and presents the project as an audio-visual collaboration as well as a recording act.

Style and activity

The group is active from 2002 to the present and is associated with electronic, electronica, glitch, house and IDM. It is closely linked to the Berlin scenes around Modeselektor, Apparat and BPitch Control.
