Mob Tactics

Mob Tactics are a UK drum and bass group made up of Luke Bugden and The Funktion, also known as Mark Sims. The project begins after the two meet in 2009, when Bugden is running the Music Department at Chemical Records and signs Sims to the in-house imprint RUN DNB. After discovering shared musical tastes and spending time in the studio together, they form Mob Tactics.

Releases and labels

The duo releases music on RUN DNB, Traffic Music and their own label, Tactical Recordings. Early tracks including “Stick-Up Kid” and “Gunjack” gain support from DJs such as Hype, Crissy Criss, Bailey and Audio before appearing on Traffic Music. Their work also attracts attention from artists including BTK, Crissy Criss and Dose, who pick up tracks for their own labels, and the pair receive remix requests as their profile grows.

Style and activity

Mob Tactics work in drum and bass and electronic music, with jump up also listed among their genres. They continue as an active studio and DJ project, with a catalogue built around releases, remixes and collaborations. Although the two members live some distance apart, they spend weekends working together at what they call Mob Tactics HQ.
