Mo Kolours is the alias of Joseph Deenmamod, a UK-based singer and percussionist. His music combines instrumental hip-hop, electronic production and experimental beats with dub and mellow hip-hop influences.
Kolours’ work draws on Sega music from his African roots. That style is percussion-led and uses rattles, hand drums and triangles, and those rhythmic elements are a clear part of his sound. Drums are central to his approach, and he often builds tracks around percussion, vocal samples and layered rhythmic patterns.
Early releases
Mo Kolours makes his debut in 2011 with the EP EP 1: Drum Talking. The record introduces a subdued but hypnotic style and features lo-fi hybrids of reggae and electronic music. Across the release, percussion remains the main focus, with Kolours’ drumming and beat construction shaping each track.
