Mister Monster

Mister Monster is a United States horror punk group formed in late 1998 by singer-guitarist J-Sin Trioxin. The band writes, records, releases and performs its material independently, and its early activity is marked by a rapid start: it forms, records, releases and plays its first show within about six weeks. Its first release, Songs From the Crypt, sells out its first pressing quickly and is repressed several times, helping the band build a following in New Jersey and New York City before it expands into small tours across the tri-state area.

Early releases and recognition

By 2001, Mister Monster is a full band and independently finances and releases Over Your Dead Body, its full-length debut. The album includes songs that become cult favourites, including “This Night I Call (Bad Luck),” “Prom Night,” “Scars 19” and “Resident Evil.” The videos for “Bad Luck” and “Gore Whore” appear as bonus material on the DVD release of the horror film Creepy Tales: Girls' Night Out, where the band’s songs also feature on the soundtrack alongside The Misfits.

Compilations, games and touring

Mister Monster appears on compilations including Grave Rockers and This Is Horrorpunk, alongside acts such as the Nekromantix, The Crypt Keeper 5, The Independents, Blitzkid, The Spook and Rock City Morgue. The group also appears in the video game Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines alongside Empire Hideous and Ghoultown. Extensive touring across the United States and self-funded releases give the band a cult following, supported by its fan club, the Skeleton Crew.

J-Sin Trioxin and related work

J-Sin Trioxin, born and raised in New Jersey, is active in the underground punk scene from high school and begins performing and touring as a teenager. He also works as guitar tech for Doyle on the U.S. leg of the Misfits Famous Monsters tour, and is recruited by Myke Hideous for a later incarnation of The Empire Hideous. Alongside Mister Monster, he plays guitar in Blitzkid, serves as a touring guitarist for Michale Graves on tours in the mid-2000s and on the album Illusions, and later works as a touring guitarist for Wednesday 13. His music for Mister Monster draws on horror themes and 1950s doo-wop influences.
