Mistabishi

Mistabishi is the alias of James Pullen, a drum and bass producer from London, United Kingdom. His work sits within drum and bass and liquid funk, and he is associated with Hospital Records.

Career

Mistabishi becomes known through his releases on Hospital Records. He is described as the label’s first new exclusive artist signing since 2004, and by the time of his second Hospital 12-inch release he is already established on the imprint. One of his tracks, “No Matter What”, draws support from Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Jo Whiley and gains attention on dancefloors and radio.

His follow-up release presents two tracks that show a range of styles. “Falling In Love” features vocalist Danman and uses dub-influenced ragga elements, while “She Lied” begins with a euphoric introduction before moving into a heavily filtered drum and bass track. His sound is described as combining pounding drums, edgy guitar strumming and emotive lyrics.

Albums and label work

Mistabishi’s debut album, Drop, is released on Hospital Records in 2009. After leaving Hospital, James Pullen starts his own label and releases two albums in the years that follow.
